Diplo, Tharparkar: A couple from Haddoonhai village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Diplo Police Station in Tharparkar district, has appealed to law enforcement agencies and child protection authorities for urgent intervention, alleging that their nine-year-old daughter has been unlawfully taken from them and subjected to abuse.
According to Mohan Kolhi and his wife, who addressed a press conference at the Awami Press Club, their daughter, Sagna Teju Kolhi, was allegedly taken away by influential individuals after the family was persuaded to hand over the child in exchange for Rs10,000. The parents claim that their daughter is only nine years old and state that her vaccination card and other available documents confirm that she is a minor.
The couple alleged that their daughter has remained in the custody of unidentified individuals for approximately one month. They further claimed that when they attempted to recover the child, they were subjected to physical violence. According to their account, the girl was also allegedly mistreated in their presence before being moved to an undisclosed location.
The parents additionally stated that they have received information from local residents suggesting that the child may have been subjected to sexual abuse. However, these allegations have not been independently verified by authorities at the time of reporting.
Expressing concern for their daughter’s safety and wellbeing, the family has called upon law enforcement agencies and relevant government departments to take immediate action. Their demands include:
- Immediate recovery of the child;
- A comprehensive medical examination and legal medico-legal assessment;
- Safe custody and reunification of the child with her parents if legally appropriate;
- Immediate arrest of all individuals found responsible;
- A transparent and independent investigation into the allegations; and
- Urgent intervention by child protection institutions and human rights organizations.
The family has urged senior officials, including the SSP Tharparkar, DIG Mirpurkhas, IG Sindh, the Home Department, child protection authorities, and human rights organizations, to take notice of the matter and ensure a thorough investigation.
No official statement from the police or relevant authorities was immediately available regarding the allegations. The claims made by the family remain subject to verification through official investigation and legal proceedings.
The case has raised concerns among local residents and rights advocates, who stress the importance of protecting children and ensuring that all allegations involving minors are investigated promptly and impartially in accordance with the law.
