Karachi Doctor Killed💔 During Daylight Robbery Sparks Outrage, Raises Questions Over Law and Order

Karachi Sindh🇵🇰, July 13: The killing of 28-year-old Dr. Akash Kumar near Teen Talwar in Karachi on Monday has triggered widespread grief and renewed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Sindh. The young doctor, who had been serving at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for the past two years, lost his life during a violent robbery incident in one of the city’s busiest commercial areas.

According to police, Dr. Akash Kumar was travelling with his father and cousin after withdrawing cash from a bank. Officials said the family was transporting approximately Rs5 million in two cash packets to another bank when armed suspects intercepted their vehicle near Teen Talwar in Clifton. During the incident, a bank security guard reportedly mistook the family’s vehicle for that of the robbers and opened fire, while the suspects also exchanged gunfire before fleeing with one of the cash packets containing Rs2.5 million.

South SSP Mahzoor Ali confirmed that investigators are examining whether the fatal bullet that struck Dr. Akash was fired by one of the robbers or by the security guard. Police have launched a full investigation, collected evidence from the crime scene, and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and arrest those responsible.

The victim’s family has demanded the immediate arrest of all suspects involved and warned that they would stage a protest if swift action is not taken. Speaking to the media, Dr. Akash’s uncle, Khem Chand, said the family was devastated by the loss of a young doctor who had dedicated his life to serving patients.

The tragic incident has reignited public debate over Karachi’s security situation and the increasing frequency of violent street crimes. Citizens and civil society members have expressed concern that if even healthcare professionals are not safe in broad daylight, public confidence in law enforcement and state institutions will continue to erode.

Condemnation of the incident has also come from various social and community circles, with calls for a transparent, impartial, and time-bound investigation. Many have stressed that justice should not be limited to official statements of condemnation but must be reflected through concrete action, accountability, and the prosecution of all those found responsible under the law.

The protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the constitutional responsibility of the state. Observers say the killing of Dr. Akash Kumar serves as another reminder of the urgent need to strengthen policing, improve public security, and ensure that criminal elements are brought to justice without delay.

As investigations continue, authorities have assured the public that every aspect of the case- including the circumstances surrounding the fatal shot and the robbery- will be thoroughly examined. The family, medical fraternity, and citizens across Sindh now await a transparent investigation and the swift arrest of those responsible for this tragic loss.
