Allegations of Harassment and Police Bias Spark Outrage in Kashmore

KASHMORE, Sindh🇵🇰 A troubling incident from Kashmore district has triggered concern among human rights activists and members of Sindh’s minority communities after allegations surfaced involving a young Hindu Meghwar girl and the reported arrest of her family members instead of the accused.

According to claims made by the girl’s relatives and local residents, a youth identified as Jhanzeb Jhakrani allegedly harassed and blackmailed a Hindu girl, Divya Kumari, who reportedly worked at a beauty parlor in the city area of Kashmore. The family alleges that the accused had been troubling the girl for a prolonged period and repeatedly pressured her to maintain relations with him.

The matter reportedly escalated when the accused allegedly entered the premises of the beauty parlor, located inside the house of Om Prakash, in broad daylight. Family members claim that after the girl refused his demands, the accused allegedly attacked her with a sharp object and later injured himself with a knife before fleeing the scene.

However, the controversy deepened after local residents alleged that police action appeared to favor the accused side. According to the family, instead of immediately arresting the alleged harasser and investigating the claims independently, police reportedly detained Om Prakash and the girl’s brother following pressure from influential individuals connected to the accused.

The incident has sparked anger among social activists and members of the Meghwar community, who say minority families in northern Sindh often face intimidation and unequal treatment. Residents questioned how serious allegations could be directed against a young girl without a transparent inquiry or forensic investigation.

Human rights advocates say the case highlights broader concerns regarding the vulnerability of minority women in Sindh and allegations of misuse of influence in local policing systems. Reports and studies over the years have documented repeated complaints from minority communities in Sindh regarding harassment, forced pressure, and lack of legal protection.

Locals also expressed concern over the growing atmosphere of fear in Kashmore-Kandhkot, a region that has frequently remained in the news due to tribal tensions, violence, and law-and-order challenges.

Community members and civil society representatives have appealed to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kandhkot to order a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter. They demanded that all allegations be thoroughly examined on the basis of evidence rather than social influence or tribal pressure.

“No family should face harassment for seeking justice,” a local activist said while demanding protection for minority women and equal treatment under the law.

At the time of filing this report, no official police statement regarding the allegations had been publicly issued. The claims made by both sides could not be independently verified, and further investigation is awaited.

The incident continues to draw strong reactions on social media, where users are demanding accountability and protection for vulnerable communities in Sindh.
