In a distressing trend for religious minorities, incidents of the abduction of Hindu girls in various regions of the Sindh province in Pakistan, coupled with their forced religious conversion, have sadly become a daily occurrence. The latest victim in this harrowing series is a 14-year-old Hindu girl from a village in the Umarkot district, adding to the growing concerns of parents whose daughters have been taken.
The parents of the abducted 14-year-old girl, hailing from a village in Umarkot district, have been living in anguish for the past 15 days. The case of Cheri Kolhi’s abduction has been officially documented at the Samaro police station based on the complaint filed by Shagan Kolhi, a resident of Village Hamiro Kolhi near Samaro in District Umarkot. Disturbingly, the police have taken action and registered the case 15 days after the incident occurred.
According to Shagan Kolhi’s account in the First Information Report (FIR), the accused, identified as Nazir Ahmed Dhonkai from Village Porho Dhonkai, along with his accomplices, forcibly entered their home at midnight on November 24th. In a brazen act, they seized Shagan Kolhi’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Cheri Kolhi, and abducted her in a white car. Despite Shagan’s attempts to intervene, the perpetrators callously thwarted his efforts.
Shagan Kolhi took immediate action by visiting the accused’s village and informing local dignitaries and relatives about the horrifying incident. Assurances were given that efforts would be made to secure the girl’s safe return. However, despite two weeks passing since the incident, there has been no sign of Cheri Kolhi. The distressed parents have been left to fend for themselves, with no assistance forthcoming.
Expressing his deep grievance, Shagan Kolhi emphasized the grave injustice inflicted upon him and his family. His daughter was forcibly snatched away before his eyes, yet neither the government nor the police have taken decisive action against the accused. Shagan Kolhi now fears that without prompt police intervention, the abductors may coerce his daughter into a forced religious conversion.
As Shagan Kolhi and his wife persistently protest against the abduction of their daughter, the absence of support from relevant authorities only deepens their anguish. The community at large anxiously awaits a swift resolution to this disturbing trend, hoping for justice to prevail and for religious minorities to live without fear of such reprehensible acts.
