How Long Will the Oppression of Hindu Girls Last? The Kidnapping of 16-Year-Old Sonia Kolhi Sparks Outcry in Sindh🇵🇰

Sanghar, Sindh🇵🇰 A fresh wave of fear and grief has swept through Zarinabad village near Jhol after the alleged kidnapping of 16-year-old Sonia Kolhi, daughter of Babu Kolhi. According to the family, the girl was taken by three armed men reportedly belonging to the Brohi community.

The incident has once again brought into focus the long-standing concerns surrounding forced conversion and forced marriage of minority girls, a pattern minority-rights groups say has persisted for years in Sindh.

Police Say FIR Registered, But Family Sees No Progress

Police officials state that an FIR has been registered and that raids are underway to arrest the nominated suspects. However, the family claims that despite the FIR, no significant progress has been made, leaving them overwhelmed with anxiety.

“No trace of Sonia has been found. She is too young, and we fear she may be forcibly converted and married,” the family told reporters. They added, “We are residents of Sindh. Our daughters are our honor. Do not lure them, do not kidnap them.”

Since the abduction, the household has been engulfed in mourning, demanding that Sonia be safely recovered and justice delivered without delay. Locals and villagers have echoed these calls, urging authorities to take the matter seriously and end the repeated injustices faced by minority families.

Minority Focal Person Visits the Family

Minority Focal Person Rajesh Kumar Hardasani visited Sonia’s family soon after the incident. He expressed solidarity with the distressed family, describing the kidnapping as “deeply sad and condemnable.”

Hardasani said he is in constant contact with MNA Shazia Atta Marri regarding the case. He has also met with SSP Sanghar Abid Ali Baloch, who assured that police teams are working actively to recover the girl as soon as possible.

Community Demands Urgent Action

Community organizations and members of the Hindu minority have demanded immediate recovery of the girl and firm action to prevent such incidents in the future. They stress that delayed justice only emboldens perpetrators, leaving minority girls increasingly vulnerable.

Their message is clear:

Protect minority girls.
Stop forced conversions.
Bring Sonia home safely.
