Alleged Abduction of Hindu Student💔 in Umarkot, Sindh🇵🇰 Sparks Outrage and Demands for Protection

A disturbing case has emerged from Umarkot, where a Hindu student, Sanam, daughter of Tilu Meghwar, reportedly went missing after attending Umarkot Girls College. Her father filed an FIR at the Women Police Station Umarkot on 11 November 2025, alleging that his daughter was abducted after leaving the college premises.

According to the family and local activists, they suspect involvement of individuals allegedly linked to an organization known as Shafi Orphanage and Welfare, headed by a woman identified as Amina Shafi. Community members claim this group has been repeatedly accused of influencing, targeting, and allegedly forcing minority girls into religious conversion. These allegations have not yet been verified by the authorities.

Local activists further allege that the group operates through networks in various cities, gaining access to vulnerable girls through educational institutions. The family claims that shortly after the disappearance, a WhatsApp message was sent to the girl’s brother stating that “your girl is in safe hands,” raising suspicions of local collaborators who may have had prior knowledge of the incident.

Due to alleged threats and intimidation, the family has reportedly refrained from speaking openly to the media or staging protests. Community leaders say this pattern of fear and silence reflects a larger issue faced by minority families dealing with similar cases.

The Pakistan Dravid Ittehad has strongly condemned the incident and called for immediate action. While emphasizing that all claims must be investigated transparently and fairly, the organization issued the following demands:

Key Demands

1. Recovery and Protection of Missing Girls

All Hindu girls who have reportedly been abducted or subjected to alleged forced conversion over the past decade should be located, recovered, and provided full state protection.

2. Accountability for School and College Staff

Any teacher, staff member, or individual accused of:

  • discouraging Hindu girls from education,

  • speaking against the Hindu faith, or

  • pressuring them to convert,
should face strict and immediate legal action following due process.

3. Establishment of an Independent Government Committee

A high-level, independent, and transparent inquiry committee should be formed to investigate all alleged cases of abduction and coerced conversion involving minority girls.

4. Strong Government Policies for Minority Student Safety

Clear, enforceable policies must be implemented to guarantee the safety, dignity, and equal educational access of minority students across Sindh and Pakistan.

The disappearance of Sanam has once again raised pressing questions about the vulnerabilities of minority girls and the responsibilities of institutions entrusted with their safety. Activists stress that only transparent investigation, accountability, and strong state policies can restore trust and protect students from future harm.
