DIGRI Sindh🇵🇰: Tensions rose in Digri, after members of the Hindu Meghwar community alleged that several families were forcibly evicted from their homes on Tando Ghulam Ali Road, triggering a protest and road blockade outside the local MPA House.
According to residents and protesters, the houses of Krishna and Harish, which they claim had existed for decades, along with a nearby bungalow, were demolished early in the morning after women and other occupants were asked to leave. Protesters alleged that the demolition left several families homeless and vulnerable.
The demonstrators further alleged that the action was carried out on the instructions of Mir Manzoor Ali Talpur, father of Sindh Minister Mir Tariq Ali Talpur. These allegations have not been independently verified, and no official evidence confirming the claims was available at the time of publication.
Women affected by the reported demolitions staged a sit-in on Tando Ghulam Ali Road, blocking traffic and demanding immediate intervention from the district administration. Protesters called for a halt to further demolitions, restoration of their homes, and an impartial investigation into the incident.
Community members said the affected families have lived in the area for generations and that their homes, places of worship, family graveyards, and livelihoods are closely tied to the land. They expressed concern that elderly residents, women, and children now face the risk of displacement and homelessness.
Local rights advocates urged the Sindh government to ensure that any eviction or demolition is carried out strictly in accordance with the law and with due process. They also called for protection of vulnerable communities and a transparent inquiry into the allegations.
The publication has sought comments from the offices of Mir Tariq Ali Talpur, Mir Manzoor Ali Talpur, the district administration, and other relevant authorities. Their responses were not available at the time this report was published and will be included once received.
This remains a developing story, and the report will be updated as more information and official statements become available.
