Rajita Kolhi a Victim of Forced Conversion in Sindh Returns to Her Parents.

In Sindh, forced conversions and abductions of Hindu women are distressingly common. Rajita Kolhi, a 25-year-old from Kanji Kolhi village in Badin district, recently fell prey to this tragic trend. Her father, Dongro Kolhi, is a struggling farmer.

Rajita was abducted three months ago, but she managed to escape and reach Mirpurkhas last week. There, she reported her ordeal to the woman police station. Rajita was held captive in Karachi and subjected to sexual abuse.

On October 17, 2023, she appeared in Mirpurkhas court, which ordered her placement in a safe house instead of returning her to her relatives, prompting debate on the issue. On October 19, the court allowed Rajita to be with her parents. Notably, despite her testimony, no action was taken against her abductors.

Advocate Kanji Meghwar represented the Hindu community during the proceedings. Hindu Sindh Foundation and Sindh Renaissance have brought this case to the international stage, monitoring the police and judicial processes in Mirpurkhas
