Indira’s parents assert that she is still a minor, being 16 years old, and has been forcibly abducted. According to the law, a girl below the age of 18 cannot be married. Despite this, a marriage certificate for Indira has been presented. However, the police have not taken any action against those responsible for arranging the marriage. In response, Indira’s parents have decided to take the matter to court.
The incident involving the abduction of Lali Thakur, a Hindu woman residing in Hyderabad, the second-largest city of Sindh, has also come to light. She was taken to the renowned Dargah Bharchondi Sharif in the Ghotki district of Upper Sindh. Mian Javed Ahmed Qadri converted Lali Thakur, and a video of her sitting inside the Dargah has been recorded and posted on social media. Lali Thakur’s family has labeled this act as cruelty.
Dadi Ode, a 12-year-old girl from the Hindu Ode family and a laborer at a brick kiln near Murkot town, mysteriously disappeared. It was later revealed that she had been abducted and converted. The girl’s parents are deeply concerned, but they have not filed a report of the girl’s abduction at the police station.
The Hindu community in Pakistan’s Sindh province has long been grappling with insecurity. Incidents of converting women and girls of the Hindu community occur every month. Despite protests at the political and social levels in Sindh, there has been no halt to these distressing events.
In the face of these distressing challenges, it is imperative for both national and international communities to join hands in condemning these acts and advocating for the protection of religious minorities. The resilience of the Hindu community in Sindh deserves acknowledgment, and concerted efforts are needed to ensure their safety, uphold human rights, and promote religious tolerance.
