Broken Dishes, Shaved Hair, and a Child’s Suffering

The Abuse of 13-Year-Old Christian Girl Zarnab Noor in Lahore🇵🇰
A Cry for Justice and Accountability

In the heart of Lahore, Pakistan, a story has emerged that has shaken many consciences and exposed a dark reality faced by countless vulnerable children. It is the story of Zarnab Noor, a 13-year-old Christian girl whose childhood was stolen by poverty, exploitation, and cruelty.

A Family Trapped in Poverty

Zarnab Noor is the daughter of Thomas Masih and Suriya Bibi, a struggling Christian family living on the margins of society. Thomas Masih is a poor street hawker who earns his living by selling small goods on the roadside, working long hours just to put food on the table.

The family has four daughters:

  • The eldest, 16 years old

  • Zarnab Noor, aged 13

  • Sataish, aged 5

  • Misma, only 4 years old

Due to extreme poverty, Thomas Masih could not afford to send his daughters to school. Instead of holding books and dreaming of a future, these children were forced to work as domestic helpers—cleaning houses, washing clothes, and serving others—simply to survive. This reality alone reflects a heartbreaking failure of protection for vulnerable children.

A Child Sent Into Isolation

At just 13 years old, Zarnab Noor was sent to work in a house in F Block, Johar Town, Lahore. She was paid 15,000 PKR per month (approximately 54 USD)—a small amount for exhausting labor and complete loss of freedom.

For months, Zarnab was not allowed to meet her family. She lived in isolation, cut off from her parents and sisters. Inside the house, she endured regular beatings and abuse, but she remained silent. She knew how hard her father struggled every day, and she feared that speaking out would make life even harder for her family.

A Crime Triggered by Broken Dishes

One tragic day, while Zarnab was washing dishes, a few plates and cups accidentally broke- a simple mistake made by a child. But what followed was an act of inhuman cruelty.

The house owner viciously beat Zarnab and then forcibly shaved her hair, leaving the 13-year-old girl bald. This act was not only physical violence but deep humiliation and psychological torture. Zarnab was treated not as a child, not as a human being, but as something disposable.

She is a young Christian girl- innocent, vulnerable, and poor—yet she suffered punishment that no child should ever face.

Suffering in Silence

Throughout her time in that house, Zarnab was never allowed to meet her parents or share her pain. She carried her suffering alone, enduring fear, shame, and humiliation in silence.

When she finally managed to escape, she revealed even more horrifying details during conversations with her lawyer and in a live interview. Her words broke hearts across communities, exposing the cruelty she had endured behind closed doors.

A Family in Hiding, A Child Demanding Justice

Today, Thomas Masih is in hiding with his four daughters, fearing for their safety. The family lives under constant threat, yet they refuse to remain silent.

Zarnab Noor has raised her voice and is demanding justice from the Government of Pakistan. Her suffering was not an accident- it was the result of poverty, exploitation, and discrimination against a vulnerable minority child.

A Painful Reality for Many Christian Children

Zarnab’s story is not an isolated case. It reflects a painful reality faced by many Christian children in Pakistan:

  • Forced child labor

  • Physical and emotional abuse

  • Exploitation of poverty

  • Silence enforced by fear

These children are often unseen, unheard, and unprotected.

A Call to Prayer and Action

We ask everyone to pray for Zarnab Noor and her family. Pray for her healing, protection, and restoration. Pray that God will comfort her broken heart and replace fear with hope. Pray that those responsible for this cruelty will be held fully accountable.

May the Lord be close to Zarnab and to every suffering child who cries out in pain.
May justice rise, and may no child’s suffering remain hidden.

In Christ.
