The families of Rimi Modhu and 15-year-old Aduri Rani are desperate for answers, but history suggests their pleas may fall on deaf ears. Too often, when Hindu women go missing in Bangladesh, they are later declared dead by “suicide”- a convenient narrative that avoids real investigation.

Aduri’s family says she was stalked and harassed for months by a local youth, Shipul Mia, before she disappeared. Witnesses claim he abducted her- yet no arrests have been made, and no serious search effort has been launched.

A Disturbing Pattern: “Suicides” Over Investigations
In Bangladesh, when Hindu women go missing, the official response is often neglect or cover-up. Time and again, cases follow the same chilling script:
- A woman vanishes without explanation.
- If her body is found, authorities quickly label it a “suicide.”
- No real investigation is conducted.
- Perpetrators walk free.
This systematic failure raises grave concerns:
- Are these women victims of trafficking?
- Are they forced into conversions or marriages?
- Are some cases honor killings disguised as suicides?
Without thorough investigations, we may never know.
Demands for Justice: A Full-Scale Inquiry
The disappearances of Rimi Modhu and Aduri Rani cannot be ignored. Bangladesh must act now:
