Another Heartbreakingđź’” Incident in Dighri, Sindh: Forced Conversion and Abduction of a Hindu Woman

Dighri, Sindh – In yet another deeply distressing case from Pakistan, a married Hindu woman, Sunita Meghwar, and her 5-year-old daughter have allegedly been kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam. The incident reportedly involves individuals named Mulla Nohani and Shahbaz Khaskheli, who are accused of abducting Sunita and coercing her into a marriage under duress.

Sunita, the wife of Shankar Meghwar, leaves behind a grieving husband and four children. Speaking to local media, Shankar Das shared the trauma his family is undergoing:

“I have been brutally tortured. My wife Sunita was kidnapped, forcibly converted, and married to Shahbaz Khaskheli. My children are devastated and helpless. The police refuse to help us.”

This is not an isolated case. Such incidents of forced conversions, particularly targeting women and girls from minority communities, have sadly become all too common in various parts of Pakistan—especially in Sindh. The lack of legal protection and failure of law enforcement agencies to act has created an environment of impunity for perpetrators.

Religious minorities in Pakistan continue to live under constant fear. Basic human rights, including freedom of religion and personal security, are being systematically violated. What makes matters worse is the deafening silence from both national and international authorities. While these crimes unfold, bodies such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) remain silent and inactive, failing to take meaningful steps to address the persecution of minorities in Pakistan.

A Call for Justice and Global Attention

The abduction and forced conversion of Sunita Meghwar is not just a local tragedy—it is a human rights crisis. It demands urgent action, not just from the Pakistani government, but from the global community.

Pakistan must be held accountable for its treatment of minority communities. Without justice, awareness, and international pressure, these atrocities will continue unchecked.
