Shree Rama Pir festival in Tando Allahyar, the biggest gathering of Sanatan Dharma in Sindh

The 638th annual Dharmi Mela of Shri Ram Dev Pir unfolded in Tandwalhiyar, Sindh, marked by profound devotion. The Samadhi of the revered Hindu spiritual leader, Shri Ram Dev Pir, graces the city of Ranaja in the Rajasthan province of India, hosting a grand festival each year. Meanwhile, the ancient Shri Ram Dev Pir temple in Tando Ulyar, Sindh, boasts a rich history spanning 600 years, hosting the annual Dharmi Mela every September. This gathering stands as the largest of Sanatan Dharma in Sindh, drawing lakhs of Hindus annually.

According to the Rama Pir temple administration, a Katri caste Hindu residing in Tandi Elhiar, bereft of children, sought blessings at the Ranaja temple. Promising to build a local Rama Pir temple if granted a son, his prayers were answered. After the birth of a son, he journeyed to Ranaja, lit a lamp from the Rama Pir temple, and erected a temple in Tando Alhiar. The lamp, kindled over six centuries ago, still illuminates the Rama Pir temple, holding immense significance for devotees.

The 638th annual festival at the Rama Pir temple commenced with elaborate decorations and stalls around the premises displaying images, books, and religious artifacts.

A bustling bazaar, featuring sweet shops for prasad, added to the festive atmosphere. Jholas, providing entertainment, captivated pilgrim women and children. Thousands traversed on foot from various Sindh cities to Tandwalhiyar, converging at the Rama Pir Temple. The joyous echoes of ‘Rama Pir ki Jai’ reverberated as devotees danced to pakarinda and dharma bhajans. Initial visits to the temple for worship preceded the exploration of the festival grounds.

Advocate Kishore Kumar, President of Rama Pir Shiva Mandli, declared the Rama Pir festival as the pinnacle of Sanatan Dharma celebrations in Sindh. The 24-hour accessibility of the Tando Alhiar temple, daily aartis, and its 638-year history contribute to its prominence. The annual fair, spanning communities, serves as a testament to the enduring cultural and religious legacy. Stringent security and robust arrangements, overseen by SSP Tando Al-Hyar, ensured a seamless experience for the 1100 policemen deployed and the countless pilgrims. Camps along the roads provided essential amenities, solidifying the fair’s reputation as a beacon of Sanatan Dharma and a haven for the faithful.

Child Marriage Claim in Abduction Case Sparks Outrage

Radha Meghwar was abducted on October 8, 2023, but the Tando Muhammad Khan police did not take timely action. Three days later, on October 11, they finally filed a case regarding the girl’s abduction. Tharo Khaskhali, a neighbor living near their house, kidnapped his daughter Radha Meghwar and took her in a car along with his friends. After a week, the police presented the accused Tharo Khaskhali and Radha Meghwar in the local court, where Tharo Khaskhali claimed that Radha Meghwar had converted to Islam and that they had both gotten married. Presenting her school certificate, it was revealed that this girl is only 13 years old and cannot legally be married as she is a minor. The court ordered Radha Meghwar to be placed in a safe house, after which her parents returned home disappointed.

Radha Meghwar’s father, Manu Meghwar, speaking to “Sindh Renaissance,” said that his daughter is young and was forcibly abducted, and her religion was forcibly changed. According to the law, a girl younger than 18 years cannot be married; therefore, her marriage is illegal. Despite this, the police have not taken any action against the people involved.

Speaking to “Sindh Renaissance,” Radha Meghwar’s mother, Phulan Bai, stated that her daughter was harassed and frightened in the court, which is why she refused to acknowledge her mother. The girl should be returned after a transparent investigation. It has been learned that the family of Tharo Khaskheli, the accused in Radha Meghwar’s kidnapping case, has vacated their house.

Manu Meghwar’s family lives in Kakain Jhopri. It has been two weeks since the incident, but none of the government ministers or administrators have reached out to the grieving family to express their sympathy.
