Sialkot, Pakistan —
A tragic incident in Neka Pura, Sialkot has left the local Christian community in mourning after a man named Saleem was fatally stabbed while attempting to defend Christian women and children from harassment. The attack, which occurred within the jurisdiction of the Neka Pura Police Station, has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of religious minorities in the region.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, Saleem intervened when he saw two men, identified as Hyder Ali and Chhame Shah, harassing members of his community. In retaliation, the assailants attacked Saleem, stabbing him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Despite efforts to save him, Saleem succumbed to his injuries.
Community leaders and local residents describe the suspects as “notorious criminals,” alleging they have long been wanted by police for a string of serious offenses, including dacoity, rape, drug trafficking, and other violent crimes. Despite these allegations, both men remain at large, fueling frustration and fear among the area’s Christian population.
“There is a pervasive sense of insecurity,” said one community representative, who wished to remain anonymous due to safety concerns. “We have repeatedly pleaded with authorities for protection, but our calls have gone unanswered.”
Human rights organizations have also condemned the killing, highlighting the broader issue of violence and discrimination faced by religious minorities in Pakistan. They point out that such communities often struggle to receive adequate protection from the state, leaving them vulnerable to targeted attacks.
As news of Saleem’s death spreads, local residents have demanded swift justice and increased security measures, urging authorities to apprehend the suspects and address the rising tide of violence targeting minority groups. For many, Saleem is remembered as a courageous individual who gave his life defending his community — a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by Pakistan’s most vulnerable citizens.
